Feeling Warm and Dry This Winter
There is no mystery to being an Everyday GourmetTM. Choose natural, flavourful ingredients, locally-produced when you can, and with a little experimenting, you can create some splendid aromas in the kitchen.
But if you need a little help in this area, either because you’re not very creative in the kitchen, or you’re short on time, see 2 recipes below that are sure to warm your heart and soul on these cold winter days!
Tarek, from Tarek’s Mediterranean restaurant, and Jane, from jane’s on the commons, have generously given CRUSISIS the following recipes so that we may share them with you.
Of course, if you’re too busy to cook, they would be happy to make it for you!
We’ve also included some information on Mary Hamblin’s Life’s Good Soup products. If you haven’t tried her soup yet, we envy you.
So buy locally. Cook seasonally. Be an Everyday Gourmet™… everyday! Bon appetit!

jane’s on the common is the gourmet of home-cooked comfort food. They make scrumptious meals from scratch, using real food and fresh ingredients sourced from local producers and suppliers whenever possible. jane’s Chef Paolo Colbertaldo creates wonderful things in the kitchen, stating “At jane’s it all comes together for me: a philosophy of life that meshes with my philosophy of food: Slow, delicious, sustainable.”
If you don’t have time for the dining experience, jane’s next door has everything you need to take home. Cook it today from their “Fresh” selection. Or select from their “Frozen” case, and keep it for a rainy day, from their “Frozen” case.
And if you’re feeling ambitious, try their tasty Squash Apple Soup recipe at home yourself. And then see how it compares to the real thing the next time you’re in!
