Feeling the Love for Valentine's Day
OK, so the traditional color of love is red. Why not be an Everyday Environmentalist ™ for Valentine’s Day and make yours green! Here’s are top 10 list on how to make yours a little more green, with more details on how to follow below:
- Eliminate gift-wrap: Make the container part of the gift, like a basket, a olw or a plate. Or use recycled gift bags.
- Buy locally-made gifts like chocolate or jewellery or others listed below.
- Give love vs. buying it. (See how below.)
- Give gifts supporting a cause. (See list to follow.)
- Buy green & local gifts. (See list to follow.)
- If you like to buy flowers, try to opt for a more locally grown plant instead. Unlike a cut flower, it will live on (assuming you take care of it!). And, your gift-giving footprint will be reduced.
- Rent a “green” movie like Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. OK, maybe not the most romantic movie, but it is sure to generate some interesting conversation with your mate!
- If you eat out, go Earthy Eating-OutTM, by supporting locally-owned restaurants that serve local, organic and Fairtrade food and beverage items when possible such as some of those listed below.
- If you indulge in some wine with dinner, also ask for locally-made or organic wines to round out the meal like Sainte-Famille, Jost, and more.
- Last but not least, buy someone you love a membership to CRUSISIS. It’s only $20 for the year, and it’s the gift that keeps on giving all year long!
