Feeling Healthy This Winter
It’s amazing the capacity we have to learn new things. As we indulge in new and crafty hobbies, we open our minds to new ways of thinking and looking at things.
And when we let the art flow over us, we let go, at least just a little bit, from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day, and immerse ourselves in a beautiful world of colour, shapes, sounds, textures and tones! What a great way to “changer le mal de place” or get a change of scenery during a long, cold winter where daylight is short. Here are some ideas:
- Do something crafty! Hone your skills or learn a new one. Here are some shops where you can drop in or maybe take a workshop:
- Clay Café – paint on clay (Quinpool Rd., near Oxford St.)
- Cranberry Stained Glass Studio and Supply (876-5167 @ 110 Chain Lake Dr. - www.cranberrystainedglass.com)
- The Loop – knit, crochet & more (Barrington St.)
- Join Grain Coop (Agricola St.). Bulk grains and more, and fun for the whole family
- Take-up an instrument! The fine folks at these establishments would be pleased to help you do so:
- Canadian Music Conservatory
- Maritime Conservatory of Arts (Chebucto Rd)
- Independent music teachers (Check classifieds or bulletin boards.)
- Read a book!
- P’lovers Book Club has a fine list. (www.plovers.net/bookclub.php)
- Go to the museum, a gallery, a concert or a play!
- Natural History Museum
- Neptune Theater
- Symphony NS
- And more…
- Work on family photo albums! Might make an nice Valentine’s gift!
- Join a cause! It’s amazing how much we gain and grow when we give of ourselves to others. For ideas on how, look to your local communities to see what organizations interest you since most of them need a hand in some way. Or check out our Feeling the Love for Valentine’s Day: Those Who Need Love section or our Reflect & Resolve Ourselves New Year’s Resolutions section from our previous Holiday Guide to give you some ideas and inspiration.
