Once your little ones are comfy-cozy with the kid-friendly products above, and bundled-up for winter, you can take them out to all the fun kid-friendly places below.

As many folks who have little ones know, Halifax offers many an oasis for parents. These are places where they can go, where their kids can have fun and play safe, and that they may even get a few quiet moments for themselves as well.

Some are free to drop in; some have fees to stay and play; some offer annual memberships as well. Whatever your pocket book and schedule allow, if you haven’t yet, be sure to give these places a try!

Café & Indoor Play Places

If you are a parent of a young child, then no doubt you know about some of the stress-free kid-friendly cafes in Halifax. Let us know if you know of some other nearby nuggets!

  • Bean Sprout Café
    The Bean Sprout Café is a bright, fun, family-friendly café in Clayton Park, Halifax, NS. They offer organic, Fair Trade coffees, teas and specialty drinks. But best of all, it houses a large play area so kids and parents can enjoy themselves worry-free. Exploration & Activity Centers

Halifax has so much to see and explore to expand little and big minds alike. Here is a smattering to help pass the unbearably cold days inside:

  • Fun Zone: Colossal play-park, with lost of padding for the littlest ones too! (Dalplex) Get a pass, a punch-card or pay as you go.
  • Discovery Center: year-round, hands-on, science-based activities to kids discover science phenomenon. (Barrington St.) Static and changing exhibits.
  • Natural History Museum: Perfectly-timed seasonal feature of Ice Age Mammals. (nature.museum.gov.ns.ca) Get your season-pass & enjoy all NS museums.
  • Art Gallery of NS: Art: see it; feel it! New exhibits often. Vist often!
  • Bedford Oceanography Institute: insightful movie for little ones too
  • Spryfield Wave Pool: What more needs said: Kid + waves = fun!
  • Other indoor family-fitness centers & activities centers like music, gymnastics programs, and more…

Low-to-No-Cost Activities

  • Carting children around from one activity to a other can be costly, especially just after the holidays. If you are looking for fun-filled activities with low-to-no costs, here are a few:
  • Bowling
  • Fair Trade Cafes
  • HRM programs… there may still be spots and if not spring registration is soon!
  • Parks
  • Sliding
  • Skating… in a rink or on a pond or lake! Be sure to contact governing authority before skating on any ponds or lakes.
