Java Blend Coffee
“In 1938, Theodore Sideris had a vision:Coffee, "Direct from our roaster to your cup." Today, some 70 years later, we continue with that tradition. We are dedicated to excellence in coffee and building community through this wonderful beverage.
We strive to delight our customers with coffees of unsurpassed quality, and in so doing to support some of the finest small farmers in the world. Java Blend Coffee is a small, locally owned roastery / café devoted to quality, and committed to staying that way. Our café is a place to converse, read, write, savor and slow down.”
Before we grind and brew our beans to make coffee, it must first be roasted. It is the roasting process that gives the beans the look, taste, and aroma we expect from the coffee. Patience and passion is the difference between ordinary commercial roasting and our artisan roasting. We never rest or accept less than the best. We lie awake at night trying to figure out how to extract all the amazing flavor that is already inside the great coffee we are so lucky to be able to roast.
Each new coffee we add to our range goes through a relentless process of experimentation. Based on experience, we ‘roast, cup, analyse, and roast again’ to fully optimize the flavours of each coffee. It’s this critical, sophisticated, and analytical approach that drives quality.
Java Blend Coffee is committed to supporting environmentally sustainable coffee growing practices that treat coffee growers fairly. We participate in programs that encourage practices such as shade growing, biodiversification, and organic farming. Java Blend has been licensed by TransFair Canada since 1999 to roast and distribute Fair Trade Coffees. Fair Trade coffee raises incomes and living standards for small coffee farmers.
The Java Factory
“Roasting coffee is not simply the process of heating the coffee bean until it is darker; it is an art. Like wine, each coffee growing region produces unique characteristics in its beans. To roast each type of coffee bean to it's fullest potential takes dedication and a love of coffee. We love coffee and take pride in roasting each type to perfection. Small we might be, but we’re changing the way Nova Scotians drink coffee one cup at a time! We love what we do and we believe that everyone deserves great coffee!”
The Java Factory Roasting Company considers itself “the premiere specialty coffee roaster in Nova Scotia. Our coffees are traditionally roasted and blended daily by the fantastic Java Factory Roasting team, to ensure their quality and freshness.” They specialize in small batch, gourmet roasting of unique coffees from around the world.
Their coffees include many types of Fairtrade Certified & Organic coffees, as well as conventional and specialty coffees. You can find them in Halifax, NS, on the waterfront next to Garrison Brewing Company; in Tantallon; or in their newly opened Dartmouth Crossing location. Drop in and try their newest blend: Dos Pequenos Indios. “It’s a fantastic blend of our premium Indian coffees; Monssoned Malabar and Mysore ‘Gold Nugget’.”
