7) Winter Potpourri
Winter Potpourri is our former 'Seasonal Follow-ups' theme.
We’re finding we don’t always have seasonal follow-ups like gardening and renovations, as we had in the past when the section was first created. Also, we felt we needed a place to put information that people wanted to contribute that was for everyday, and perhaps less related to the season. A case in point, this season, we have no follow-ups. But we have 2 important contributions: one from our Environmentalist, Bridget Oland, regarding batteries and how you should dispose of them, and the other, from Save the View , a plea for Citadel Hill.

If you are using batteries, obviously, we’d recommend you choose re-chargeable ones. It may seem like a small and insignificant change to make if you are not already doing so. But nowadays, most people have cell phones, cameras, and other electronic devices on the go with them at all times, that are battery operated.
To take the sustainability point further, we could suggest getting rid of your technological gadgets, tools and toys altogether to avoid the need for batteries in the first place. But rather than try to ‘boat upstream without a paddle’, we thought we suggest you limit your battery use when you can; use re-chargeable batteries; and if you can’t, use proper ‘Battery Care’ as Bridget suggests below.
