5) Sustainable Celebrations
It may not be possible to add any more green colour to the age old Irish celebration, but we have a few suggestions to help you make it ‘greener’ in a planet-friendly fashion…
If you’re a good Irishman (or woman), or like to hang out with them, or just like a good party when there’s one comin’ around, you’re likely looking forward to next month’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration in March, just in time to help us break winter’s back. Here’s how you can make yours is a little ‘greener’ this year:
- Beer
- Celtic Gifts
- Kilts
- Celtic Fashion
- ‘Celtic’ Cookies
Beer
Few St. Patty’s Day celebrations are complete without some ale. Make sure the brands you choose are locally brewed in some of our micro-breweries like Garrison Brewing Company, Propeller Brewing Company, or even some of the varied selection from Maritime favorite Oland’s Brewery. Or at the very least, enjoy your favorite pint in a locally owned Irish establishment like the The Old Triangle, or O'Carroll's (with staff temporarily found at Hart & Thistle in the Harbourside Waterfront location during the Waterside Development project).
Celtic Gifts
If there’s a special someone in your life for whom you’d like to get something special, visit your locally owned store at 5640 Spring Garden Rd, Celtic Traditions, for a variety of Celtic gifts. (492-3390)
Kilts
If you are looking to carry on family aged-old traditions of kilt-wearing, or would like to buy one for someone else, be sure to buy one from our local kilt manufacturer’s like MacIsaac Kiltmakers. Visit their website at www.mackilts.com.
Celtic Fashion
If you’ve been to any of the Atlantic Fashion Week (AFW) shows, you know Veronica MacIsaac. Her work is beautiful and diverse, allowing you to wear the pride of the Celtic tradition in casual or dressed-up style. She weaves in Celtic designs into her pieces in a vibrant or subtle fashion, to suit any preference. See the Fall Fashions section of our Fall Guide ‘2009 for more details regarding Veronica MacIsaac and the AFW.
‘Celtic’ Cookies
If you want to treat yourself or your crowd to a non-alcholholic Irish treat, why not try Noelle’s home-made custom designed cookies. She usually has something seasonal on hand, and can custom make orders.
