3) Discoveries: The World from the Eyes of a Child

There are so many wonders of the season to discover: take in all the majesty of its natural beauty; savour the seasonal bounty; let the outdoors be your playground; and make your city your vacation spot.

Tempt your mind and your palate with the earth’s offerings and enhance your lifestyle through our philosophical look at the summer season, and by looking at the world through the eyes of a child…

1.    Discover the Wonders of the Season
2.    Discover the Virtue of “Slow”
3.    Discover the Virtue of “Local”
4.    Re-Discoveries
5.    CRUSISIS Everyday Heroes™ - Near & Far
6.    CRUSISIS Everyday Environmentalist™ for Summer

With the “Slow Movement” building momentum in the last decade, some of us are slowing our pace.  Yet, many of us still rush through a pre-scheduled cycle (some might say “a rut”); moving from one activity to the next; and never having (or taking) the time to enjoy our own city.

When is the last time you stopped and really took in the sights, sounds, tastes and flavours of your local area?

Sure, there’s a reality to life.  And thought we might want to adopt a vacationer’s mentality, most of the 365 days of the year, we’re NOT actually on vacation.  As such, we seldom leisurely lolly-gag around our own city and really enjoy all it has to offer.

This summer, why not adopt a bit of a tourist mentality, as if you were new to the local area, and discovering things for the first time?  Perhaps in many cases, you will be, as you unearth new, local escapades, such as those we propose below...

Have you ever watched a child discover something new for the first time?  Have you seen the glee and wonder in their eyes at the sight of a rainbow, a butterfly, or a lady bug crawling up their arm?  What virtue they bring to the simplest new pleasures they experience, like feeling the sand through their fingers or a cool wave tickling their feet.

What a gift it would be to look at the world through the eyes of a child…

Each season, we pick people or organizations, locally AND from away, which we feel are worthy of mention:  our CRUSISIS Everyday Heroes™ “Near” and “Far”.  We always learn a little something from what they’ve done to earn the honour, and how parts of what they've done can easily be applied to ourselves, our planet and our own communities.

Our Everyday Heroes, both “Near” and “Far”, have a few things in common this season:

  1. They are both famous, in their respective communities.
  2. They have both used their celebrity to achieve great things for the community that surrounds and supports them.
  3. Their related contributions are child-focussed.
  4. They have a summery aspect: golf & summer camps.
  5. Coincidentally, they were recently brought together for an event in Nova Scotia.

Life is busy.  Most of us work through the day, and some nights.  Stores are now opened 7 days per week, and many late into the night.  Technology is available 24x7, so we use (and abuse) it.  And there’s just a lot to do, no matter what your vocation, recreation or overall situation!

We're living life in the fast lane...
