Spring Renovations: Go Green!
We’re not going to pretend to be the designers here. We’ll leave it to the experts and let you call them from our list of green contractors below. Besides, like in the case of hybrid cars, the trend of building green has many magazines and newspapers looking for every opportunity to get an article about it. So you likely don’t need another.
We’re going to do 4 things:
- Link you to the CRUSISIS Everyday Environmentalist for Home Heating, but not the “Low Costs” list, the “Home Improvements List”. Here you’ll find ideas about renovating your home in order to make it more energy-efficient, like new insulation; windows; seals and mechanical systems, etc…
- We’re going to suggest you try to use install systems that use more eco-friendly renewable and alternative energy sources, like:
- passive or active solar
- geothermal
- wind power
- or other sources, which are often more cost effective in the long run
- Suggest you investigate your EnerGuide Rebate options and make sure you have the assessment evaluation done before any renovations start in order to be eligible, per Jan MacAuley’s Green Home Renovation tips to follow.
- Ask you to think outside the box, or maybe outside the Hay Bale?? But think about and research different construction options prior to building. There is so much more that can be done now than just building to R-2000 standard. It’s a step in the right direction. But explore the plethora of options that exist now. And have your team help guide you in the process of your project, in keeping with your unfaltering green mindset.
