Spring Gardening: Your Green Thumb
Can you imagine salsa without cilantro? Pickles without dill? Tabouleh without parsley? What would a spaghetti sauce or a turkey soup be without all the herbs that go in to make them? Herbs are so completely instrumental in making so many dishes what they are and in truly defining their taste.
While dry herbs are wonderful in a dish, you’ve never really tasted the full potential of a dish until you’ve made with fresh herbs. Go on… we dare you to try the famous Italian Caprese salad with dry basil instead of fresh. There is no comparison!
The most effective and economical way to ensure you get the freshest ingredients in your dish is to grow your own herb garden. And you don’t even need a big yard or a really green thumb to grow them. Learn more about herbs and planting in pots or small spaces from Halifax Seed’s and Deirdre Evans’s contributions below.
