Spring Celebrations: Mothers & Mother Earth
“I was tucking the shirt into the pants of my 5 year old when something in my sub conscience detected a strange sensation on my foot. My slow, sleepy early-morning reaction, allowed time for the sensation to repeat itself before I had a chance to look down and realise my 2 year old, was licking the top of my foot. Looking up at me smiling she said: “I’m a dog!” While cringing, but not wanting to quash her imaginative exuberance, I took a deep breath and said: “How fun that you are pretending to be a dog. But we don’t lick mommy, OK? We don’t lick anyone really.”
Just as I was about to convey the last pearl of wisdom to my 2 year old about pretending to lick instead, my 5 year old, who was still in close proximity to me (remember I was tucking in his shirt), licks my cheek and says: “She was just pretending to be a dog and this is what dogs do!” Feeling my personal space completely assaulted now, especially this early in the morning, I announce to both my adorable children: “We can PRETEND to lick when we’re having fun pretending to be a dog. But we DON’T lick mommy, please!”
Motherhood: the weird and the wonderful. It truly is. The number of strange places, physically and figuratively speaking, in which we find ourselves are enumerable, interesting and surprising to say the least. But the depth of feelings we experience and the beauty we witness as we grow with our children provide the most incredible opportunities and delights. As difficult as motherhood may be to put into succinct words, it is inarguably a weird and wonderful thing!
So with a little help from our information below, indulge and enjoy Mother’s Day, whether its yours or with your own mother!
