Spring Celebrations: Mothers & Mother Earth
Our bodies go through many changes during the nine months of pregnancy. Yoga helps to ease the aches and pains; decrease water retention; and adjust to changes in center of gravity.
Hillary’s class puts special emphasis on yoga poses that tone the muscles of the legs and pelvic floor, as well as poses that create more space for your baby to move and grow. Because she attends births as a birth doula, she’s able to weave in breathing techniques and yoga flows that may be extremely valuable to you during your birthing experience.
Your yoga class turns into a bit of a birth prep class as well. Hilary can help you bridge the gap between the yoga classroom and your birth environment. Some yoga flows she teaches can be used during and between contractions. She will show you and help you practice positions for the pushing stage as well. Specific exercises in relaxation and breathing which are taught will help fill your birthing toolbox and are also invaluable for life!
Many women who begin yoga during pregnancy turn it into a life-long activity, finding that returning to yoga is a much simpler postpartum activity than many other fitness activities.
As with any exercise program, it is best to consult with your doctor or midwife before beginning. There are certain factors that make some pregnancies high-risk, and these should all be considered.
Join Hillary’s prenatal yoga class every Wednesday night from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at The Yoga Loft. (www.theyogaloft.ca)
