Reduce Water Consumption:
1. Take shorter showers.2. Install low-flow shower heads & low-flow toilets.
3. Reduce the intensity of the water flow EACH time you turn on the tap. Try even reducing the flow by 50%, and see how low you can make the flow each time.
Eliminate Unnecessary Usage:
4. Repair leaky faucets.5. “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. And if it’s brown, flush it down.”
6. Keep a rinse sink for dishes during mealtime instead of running water each time you want to rinse a dish.
Limit Waste While you Wait:
7. Leave the water off while you brush your teeth.8. Turn the water off between shampooing & rinsing in the shower.
Re-use/ Recycle Water:
9. Install a barrel to catch rainwater and use this water for plants or yard play.Limit & Monitor Play Water:
10. Don’t let the hose run all afternoon for water play. Limit usage by setting a time designated for the activity and turn it off until next time.
11. Use a soaker hose instead of a sprinkler as Earth Day Canada suggests on their “Pledge for the Planet”.
Ensure Your Water is Clean:
12. Use natural and chemical-free cleaning products and detergents for your day-to-day cleaning.
13. Choose natural personal hygiene products, including ones made with the earth in mind during manufacturing and in terms of the end packaging.
