So many people in need…

So many ways to help this holiday season…

All across Canada this year, more and more people have been showing up at the doors of food banks looking for help to fill one of the most basic human needs: FOOD!

Hunger knows no barriers, and its impact is truly profound.Over 1/3 (one third) of people affected in Nova Scotia are under 18.

For only $65, you can feed a family this Christmas!  Click to see how YOU can make a difference in the lives of hungry Nova Scotians TODAY!

Disturbing Statistics About Hunger in Nova Scotia

  • More than 40,000 people EACH MONTH are affected by hunger in Nova Scotia
  • This is a 20% increase over last year.
  • People affected include children, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and more.
  • 1/3 (one third) of them are under the age of 18.

Replace Hunger with Hope

The effects of hunger paint a bleak picture in communities across the province, but with your support this can change. Together we can replace hunger with hope.

What We’re Doing

FEED NOVA SCOTIA is a charitable organization that helps feed hungry people and strives to eliminate chronic hunger and poverty. Some of our contributions include:

  1. Collecting & distributing food to 153 member agency food banks, meal programs and soup kitchens.
  2. Research
  3. Support Programs

During the Holiday Season, in addition to continuing our regular support of food banks throughout the province, FEED NOVA SCOTIA also supports thousands of families with extra holiday assistance. Below are a number of ways you can help make this support possible.

What YOU Can Do to Help Hungry Nova Scotians TODAY!

Here’s what YOU can do to help make the extra Holiday support for thousands of families possible and/or even to help throughout the year:

  1. Feed a Family This Christmas
  2. Donate Food
  3. Host a Food or Fund Drive
  4. Volunteer

1. Feed a Family This Christmas

Every child deserves to enjoy the festive smell of turkey roasting in the oven on Christmas day and the nutritious warmth as it fills their tummy. Last Christmas we worked with partners in the community to distribute more than 4,500 Christmas hampers filled with turkey and all the trimmings to families in need. With your help, we can do it again:

  • Only $65 provides a full Christmas meal to a family of 4.
  • $50 helps a family of two.
  • $25 provides for a single individual.
  • $100 will feed a large family of 7 or more.

To feed a family this Christmas, call 457-1900, visit www.feednovascotia.ca to donate online, or drop off your donation in person at 213 Bedford Highway in Halifax.

2. Donate Food

We welcome perishable and non-perishable food donations at our office at 213 Bedford Highway, and non-perishable items through our drop-off bins in Sobeys and Superstores across Nova Scotia. Food donations are sorted at our warehouse and distributed to 153 member agencies in communities across the province.

3. Host a Food or Fund Drive

Want to make an even bigger contribution? Food and fund drives are a great way to get friends and co-workers together to fight hunger. We call these third-party events and they’re one of our best sources of food and fundraising proceeds. Call us at 457-1900 x231 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we’ll help you get started. If you’re already set to go give us a call anyway so we can register your event and support you with promotional materials.

4. Volunteer

We rely on a dedicated team of more than 600 volunteers.  It sounds like a lot, but the reality is we always need more help.  Call 457-1900 x224 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to discuss how you can get involved.

Thank you, and have a wonderful Christmas.
