2) Fall for Harvest (Pre-amble)
Fall…
You almost have to pause for a moment to enjoy the splendid images the word conjures up: the falling, swirling leaves, the pumpkins, the harvest moon as big and bright as you’ve ever seen, and the colours. The colours are splendid, from the delicious freshly picked fruits and vegetables on your table, to the burnt oranges, amber yellows and ruby reds of the leaves. They are rivaled only perhaps by the stark, earthy browns of the dirt on your hands as you dig up the season’s crop.
You’ve got to love fall: strolling around and kicking your feet through the leaves; the crisp fall mornings that make you reach for your favorite cozy sweater, scarf or cape; the warmth of the jack-o-lantern, carved from pumpkins carefully selected from local farms; and the plentiful bounty of the long awaited harvest.
Kids are going back to school, or maybe even starting up for the first time, with eyes and hearts filled with excitement and trepidation. Folks are going back to work after a hot summer of fun, family, friends and vacationing. And we’re slowly settling back into the fall routine, steadying the course as the days get shorter, and as we give thanks for the bounties abound.
Indeed, fall is here. And it’s time to “Fall for Harvest”, with the CRUSISIS Fall Guide to Sustainable Living ‘09.
